Some of my earliest memories are of following my Dad into the local parts store, which always included a Coca-Cola in a glass bottle out their ancient Coke Machine. I remember the smell of axle grease and rubber, and the red white and blue Remy-Delco Clock hanging on the wall. I grew up in the trucking industry, and was raised on Chevelles, Camaros and Chevy Pickups.
My future in automotive was clinched when I fell in love with a Technician who wanted his own shop. He helped me get a job as a NAPA parts delivery driver during college, and after we got married, we built a shop and ran it together for 15 years. Like most shop owners, I’ve done almost everything in the shop, except turn wrenches. I think my husband knew that if he let me start working on cars, he’d never get me back in the office.
Mopping the floors wasn’t my favorite, but i loved working with the numbers and balancing the books. I also enjoyed the service advising, it was so rewarding to become our customers’ trusted partner in the care and maintenance of their vehicles.
I’ve spent approximately 99% of my working life employed by companies that have less than 20 employees. The one time I worked for a big corporate entity that had 100 plus employees I was miserable. I know small business because I am small business. I am “of” the people, the small business people. NOT a large corporate entity.
Fact: 90% of US firms have less than 20 full-time employees and about 96% of firms have fewer than 50 full-time employees.
Unfortunately, my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Cancer in 2015, and the whole focus of our life changed. We sold the shop, moved from California to Texas and settled into a quieter life. Sadly, it wasn’t long before the cancer took him in the summer of 2017. I thought my passion for the Automotive Industry had died with him, but in Fall of 2024 the opportunity to coach Auto Repair Shops came up, and I took it!. Getting to work with Shop Owners gives me the chance to give back to the industry, and the people in it, that gave so much to me!
In my time away from the industry, I learned a lot about people and about myself. It seems like a long journey from being that little girl in the parts store to who I am now. But the combined experiences of my life have given me unique perspectives on Leadership, Customer Relations and Work/Life Balance.
As a Coach, I help shop owners build profitable, sustainable businesses they can be proud of. I coach from experience, from the numbers, and most importantly—from the heart. I understand the challenges shop owners face because I’ve lived them. And I believe success isn’t just about hitting KPIs—it’s about building a business that supports the life you want to live
