Hey everyone, I hope the world’s treating you well and you’re having a great day. Chris Cotton here from AutoFix-Auto Shop Coaching, where we work hard to support your auto repair shop’s financial success.

If you have an idea for a show topic or just want to talk shop, feel free to get with me at chris@autofixsos.com.

So, what I want you to remember, or this topic is going to be called “What you allow is what will continue.”

So, let’s look back at 2021 and look ahead to 2022. So, I don’t want to get too deep into how we did because I’m going to do an episode later on that.

2021 was a great year for us. We expanded into some new areas; our podcast, Weekly Blitz, with episodes; our podcast, Weekly Blitz, with episodes; more clients than we’ve had before, and more engagements.

We also took a different tack on marketing, and it really, really paid off good for us.

So, enough about us. I want to talk about you shop owners out there.

In the title, I said, “What you allow is what will continue.” That was a motto that I came up with early on.

When I first started doing some meetings in January and February, I told everybody, now is the time to stop doing the same thing and do something new. And let’s don’t allow behaviors that we don’t want to continue in our business. Let’s make sure that we’re doing the things that we want to do in our business moving forward.

So, again, what you allow is what will continue.

So, let’s look back at 2021. How are things going for you?

I think the industry as a whole was on fire. All of my clients did really, really well and can’t complain at all.

But now is the time of year where we sit back and reflect how things are going for you. How did it go? Did you allow things to continue that you shouldn’t have? Did you do as well as you should have?

Or are you sitting back out there, are you sitting there thinking and seeing that there are other shop owners out there that make owning a shop look easy?

Sometimes, we see that in social media, et cetera.

It could be because they have an auto shop coach to bounce ideas off of and help them navigate their everyday business.

But it could be they’re just great shop owners. And I would tell you that a lot of great shop owners do have great coaches.

So, let’s talk to you for a minute. So, are you going to finish the year like you thought you would? Or are you going to sit back and go, “Damn, I could have done better. What do I do and where do I go?”

So, think about that for just a second. Could I have done better? Do I want to do better? If I didn’t do better if I didn’t do as good as I wanted to do, then why not?

Are you… And again, I’m going to make this statement and then I’m going to follow it up.

So, you’re standing back watching other shops, wondering what you’re missing on or what the secret sauce is.

So, having said that, I’m going to tell you, there’s no secret bullet. You can’t go out and hit a switch and make your business turn around, other than hard work and guidance, right? Those are the things that successful people have. Those are the things that successful people have. They have hard work ethic and guidance, and you have to work smarter, not harder.

So, one of the things that we do is we help from the accountability aspect.

We talk to you, you do the meetings, we talk about what’s important in the business, and you move forward.

So, having said that, I also want to say, it’s okay to not know what you don’t know but it’s not okay to stay in that mode and that mindset and not ask for help.

It’s not enough to just make it through. You have to succeed.

And success for one shop owner might be something else.

But what I’m here to tell you is, if you look back at 2021 and you’re thinking, “Damn, I wish I could have done more,” maybe you don’t know what that is, maybe you don’t know what your business is capable of, or maybe you have limiting mindsets.

Or maybe you have limiting mindsets, there’s a couple of great episodes from the Weekly Blitz podcast that you can reference.

One is called Hitting Your Five Iron and the other one is called Limiting Behaviors.

We’ll make sure and get the links in there when we do this video.

But the goals and accountability. One of the big things that I did as a shop owner when I was by myself is I was the owner and I didn’t really have anybody to talk to or anybody to guide me through what was going on, so I sat back and I thought, “Enough was enough!” I thought what I was doing was good enough.

But again, I didn’t know what I didn’t know until I reached out and found a great auto shop coach for myself. And that’s right. Even coaches have coaches. I have a coach now that I talk to on a regular occurrence.

So, what I want you to think about is, “Okay, 2022, what do I want to happen in 2022 that didn’t happen in 2021?”

And okay, so now we have goals. Who’s going to hold you accountable to that?

And I would strongly encourage you, find a shop coach. Great if it’s us. If it’s somebody else, then that’s fine. Get with somebody that can look outside from above your business and pull you back and is not emotionally attached to your business, and help you succeed.

So, if you’re tired of being tired and you’re ready to change the future of your business and your personal life, then feel free to reach out. All you got to do is ask.

Like so many things in life, everybody, all you have to do is ask for help, but you have to realize that you need help and you’re not able to get to your goals.

But the first step is asking for help, all right?

So, if you ever want to talk, feel free, email me, phone call me, do something. Pick up the phone and ask for help. And if it’s not from us, then find somebody else.

Do your research on the internet and do some due diligence, okay?

So, that was my quick thing on looking back, and then 2022 is going to be another great year for us. So, if you’re not having the year you think, or you didn’t just finish up the year that you thought you should have, feel free to reach out and give us a call.
